Province Announces University of Manitoba Board of Governors Appointments



The Manitoba government has appointed 12 new members to the board of governors of the University of Manitoba (U of M), Education and Training Minister Ian Wishart announced today.

“The U of M community will benefit greatly from the wisdom and experience these board members bring from a variety of backgrounds,” said Wishart.  “I look forward to the fresh and innovative ideas they will bring to the table.”

The board of governors consists of 23 members including the chancellor, president, 12 members appointed by the lieutenant-governor in council, three members elected by U of M graduates, three members elected by the university senate and three members appointed by the University of Manitoba Students’ Union.

The board is responsible for overseeing the administrative and business affairs of the university including approving the annual budget and appointing and monitoring the performance of the president and vice-chancellor.

The new board will have strong representation from the U of M alumni community with the following members joining the board:  Dr. Mark Mollot, Kimber Osiowy, Kathryn Lee, Michael Silicz, Rafi Mohammed and Laurel Hyde.  Jane MacKenzie, Steve Demmings and Judith Linden have also been appointed.  Kyle Mirecki and Heather Maxted have been appointed as student members and Ritika Khatkar has been re-appointed as a student member.

“I would like to thank all outgoing board members for their exemplary service,” said Wishart.  “Their dedication to life-long learning and post-secondary education in Manitoba is an inspiration to us all.”
