Standing Hearing for Inquest into Death of Bradley Errol Greene

A standing hearing will take place to determine who can participate in the upcoming inquest into the death of Bradley Errol Greene, 26, of Winnipeg.

In the early morning of April 30, 2016, Greene was placed into custody at the Winnipeg Remand Centre following his arrest by members of the Winnipeg Police Service.  On the afternoon of May 1, 2016, Greene experienced medical distress and an ambulance was called, transporting him to Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg.  He received further treatment in hospital and was admitted to the intensive care unit, but died later the same day.

Under The Fatality Inquiries Act, an inquest has been called by the chief medical examiner.  Inquests explore the circumstances and events leading to deaths for the purpose of finding out what, if anything, might be done to prevent similar deaths in the future.

Before the inquest begins, the judge will decide who can participate in the process and question witnesses.  Individuals and groups may make an application to be granted standing and participate in the inquest.  Those interested in applying for standing should contact Keith Eyrikson, inquest counsel, 204-948-1413 or keith.eyrikson@gov.mb.ca by March 10.

The standing hearing will be held on March 15 at 9 a.m. in Courtroom 402 at the Manitoba Law Courts Complex, 408 York Ave., Winnipeg.
