Province Announces Indigenous Consultations on Preferred Route for Lake Manitoba Lake St. Martin Outlet Channels

The Manitoba government is engaging in consultations with Indigenous communities on the preferred route of the Lake Manitoba Lake St. Martin Outlet Channels, Premier Brian Pallister and Infrastructure Minister Blaine Pedersen announced today.
“Our government has committed to the construction of the Lake Manitoba Lake St. Martin Outlet Channels, which will keep Manitobans and their communities safe,” said Pallister. “As we prepare for one of the most significant infrastructure projects in a generation, we are proud as a government to move forward on a path of working in partnership with Indigenous communities. Today, we are pleased to build on the important work already done by Minister Pedersen and his department with a collaborative process to strengthen our relationships with affected Indigenous communities.”
“Our government recognizes there are significant opportunities through this project to support job creation and create new economic opportunities for Indigenous communities in the Interlake region,” said Pedersen. “There has been significant research, planning, and design work done in the development of the preferred route for the Lake Manitoba Lake St. Martin Outlet Channels. We look forward to meaningfully consulting with Indigenous communities across the region that may be impacted by this project.”
The Manitoba government has been finalizing consultation agreements, workplans and budgets with 14 First Nation communities in the Interlake region and is also reaching out to other Indigenous communities where there is interest in these projects.
