Premier Announces Changes to Legislative Assistants



In addition to the new changes to executive council announced today, Premier Brian Pallister also announced changes to the legislative assistants serving members of cabinet. 

“Earlier today, our government proudly announced changes to the team that will help us transition into the next phase of our mandate,” said Pallister.  “I am pleased to announce changes to our group of legislative assistants, who serve an important role supporting cabinet ministers as they carry out their respective mandates.  I am joined by all members of cabinet in thanking our legislative assistants for their dutiful commitment to the province and integral support to our government.” 

Andrew Smith has been newly appointed as the legislative assistant to Sport, Culture and Heritage Minister Cathy Cox.  Sarah Guillemard will now serve as the legislative assistant to Health, Seniors and Active Living Minister Kelvin Goertzen.  The remaining legislative assistants retain their assignments.

The position of legislative assistant is filled by MLAs in caucus in order to support cabinet ministers and also provide the assigned MLAs with experience associated to cabinet.


The complete list of legislative assistants is as follows:

  • Guillemard (MLA for Fort Richmond) – Health, Seniors and Active Living Minister Kelvin Goertzen;
  • Janice Morley-Lecomte (MLA for Seine River) – Families Minister Scott Fielding;
  • Kelly Bindle (MLA for Thompson) – Growth, Enterprise and Trade Minister Blaine Pedersen;
  • Derek Johnson (MLA for Interlake) – Infrastructure Minister Ron Schuler;
  • Smith (MLA for Southdale) – Sport, Culture and Heritage Minister Cathy Cox; and
  • Rick Wowchuk (MLA for Swan River) – Sustainable Development Minister Rochelle Squires.
