Province Announces Appointments to Veterinary Services Commission

Manitoba Agriculture has appointed two new members and reappointed two members to the Veterinary Services Commission.

Cyndee Holdnick and Ramona Blyth have been newly appointed, and Dr. Allan Preston and Gerond Davidson have been reappointed as members of the board.

Holdnick (Carlowrie) owns and operates a cattle and grain farm with her family, managing 280 acres and 100 head of cattle.  She also works for the Prairie Oat Growers Association.  She is an active community volunteer including current positions as the treasurer of the Arnaud Mennonite Church, and treasurer and registrar for the Rat River Minor Hockey Association.

Blyth (MacGregor) owns and operates Rosehill Cattle Co. Ltd., serves as vice-president of the Manitoba Beef Producers, and is president and chair of Manitoba Beef and Forage Initiatives.  She is an active community volunteer, having been involved for more than 25 years with the MacGregor and District Kinette Club.

Preston (Hamiota) has been reappointed as the chair of the Veterinary Services Commission.  He is the president of Preston Stock Farms and previously served on many animal-related boards and committees.

Davidson (Neepawa) has also been reappointed to the board.  He is a fifth-generation beef farmer and municipal councillor with the RM of Langford, whose interests focus on ecological preservation and community service.

The Veterinary Services Commission oversees a provincial funding program for maintenance and operating costs at veterinary clinics in Manitoba’s 27 districts.  It also manages a veterinary recruitment fund intended to increase awareness of employment opportunities available in the province.  The commission also negotiates fee schedules and other matters with the Manitoba Veterinary Medical Association.

Manitoba Agriculture thanks outgoing members of the commission for their service.
