Manitoba Puts Out Call for Ideas, Moves Closer to Creating International Curling Centre of Excellence in Winnipeg

The Manitoba government has launched a request for expression of interest (REOI) to generate ideas for the best location and to find potential partners, individuals and corporate sponsors who want to be part of the International Curling Centre of Excellence (ICCE), Sport, Culture and Heritage Minister Cathy Cox announced today.

“Manitoba has long been known as an epicentre for curling, with a record of turning out champions and this centre is a unique opportunity to develop our own athletes while helping grow the sport at home and around the world,” Cox said.  “This centre will train and inspire future generations of curlers and we look forward to hearing from people who want to be part of this incredible project.”

Under the careful leadership of the ICCE committee, a vision of a year-round, dedicated, professional curling facility has emerged.  The committee is seeking interest from parties in a number of areas including ideas for a suitable site, sponsorship, investment and groups who want to establish a presence within or to coexist with the ICCE facility.

“The committee will continue to collaborate with the governance of curling to ensure the ICCE complements their mandates,” said Mark Olson, ICCE committee chair.  “I encourage anyone who has a view on a location in Winnipeg or has an interest in being a part of the ICCE to respond to the REOI.”
