Appointment Made to Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Corporation Board
One new member, Christine Van Cauwenberghe, has been appointed to the Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Corporation (MBLL) board of directors, Crown Services Minister Colleen Mayer announced today.
“I want to thank the dedicated Manitobans who have served on the board of Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Corporation for their service”, Mayer said. “I look forward to working with the new members and those serving in new roles.”
Van Cauwenberghe is currently the vice-president, tax and estate planning division, with Investors Group Financial Services Inc. and manages a countrywide team of legal and accounting professionals across Canada.
She holds both a commerce and law degree from the University of Manitoba, and is also a certified financial planner and trust and estate practitioner. She is also a celebrated author, having published several publications including Wealth Planning Strategies for Canadians, currently in its 13th edition. Van Cauwenberghe currently serves as a board member of the Canadian Tax Foundation and is the past chair of STEP Canada’s Education Committee and past co-chair of the STEP Canada Annual Canadian Conference. She is also an active community member having served on the University of Manitoba’s Alumni Association, St. Mary’s Academy school board, St. Ignatius school board (past chair), as well as the Winnipeg Art Gallery, Manitoba Opera and the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre.
Two additional changes to the board will see Randy Williams (Dugald) move to chair of the board and Patricia Solman (East St. Paul) move to vice-chair of the board.
Williams is a former executive director of commercial gaming with the Manitoba Lotteries Corporation and has over 25 years of experience in Manitoba’s gaming industry. He has worked at every level of gaming, from training lottery tickets retailers at Western Canada Lottery Corporation to eventually becoming vice-president of gaming operations at South Beach Casino. Williams spent most of his career at Manitoba Lotteries, first as product manager, then casino manager and eventually served as executive director of commercial gaming. In that role, he was responsible for lottery ticket retailing, video lotter terminal operations, and all First Nations casino operations in Manitoba.
He also currently chairs the Springfield Seniors Housing Cooperative in Dugald. He formerly chaired the Manitoba Taxicab Board and has board management experience from several community groups and councils. He is a graduate of the Gaming Management Development Program at the University of Nevada Las Vegas.
Solman is the former senior vice-president (network and field services) at BellMTS from 2015 to 2017. Now retired, she previously served as vice-president of operations for MTS Allstream from 2011 to 2015. She is a past board member of Women in Communication and Technology, the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce board of directors and the board of trustees of the United Way. In 2008, she was named Mentor of the Year by Canadian Women in Communications.
These appointments are part of the Manitoba government’s effort to continue to refresh the agencies, boards, and commissions of the province, ensuring that Manitobans continue to be represented in these important positions by highly qualified and enthusiastic individuals.
