Province to Help Community Foundations Move Manitoba Forward

As part of its 100-Day Action Plan, the Manitoba government has taken steps to support the growth of community foundations and inspire philanthropy across the province by establishing the Endow Manitoba fund, Municipal Relations Minister Rochelle Squires announced today.
“We know how much Manitobans love to help each other and we hope this new fund will help community foundations inspire more donations,” said Squires. “This fund will help rural community foundations continue to build on past successes.”
The fund will be managed by The Winnipeg Foundation, which will help to grow rural community foundations. It is anticipated that, once it reaches its targeted level of $5 million, the fund will generate about $250,000 each year, Squires noted. Funds will support a variety of programming, such as:
• capacity-building community foundation workshops;
• shared research and development projects;
• information technology enhancement programs;
• virtual communication platforms, such as website development that will enhance communication with the public and internally between community foundations; and
• a commitment to expand the network of rural community foundations.
“We are pleased to partner with the Manitoba government on this important, sustainability initiative,” said Rick Frost, CEO of The Winnipeg Foundation. “Community foundations across the province will benefit by being better connected and by working together to elevate philanthropy throughout Manitoba.”
