Manitoba Government Supporting High-Quality, Affordable Child Care for Families through Grant Funding to 34 Facilities
The Manitoba government has invested over $375,000 in capacity and programming improvement grants to support high-quality affordable child-care services in 34 facilities across the province, Education and Early Childhood Learning Minister Nello Altomare announced today.
“We’re committed to supporting child-care facilities to provide the best possible care for our children, while helping them learn and keeping them safe,” said Altomare. “These grants help child-care facilities with everything from repairs to new programs for children, to training opportunities for staff.”
The Child Care Sustainability Trust provides one-time grant funding to improve overall capacity, conduct repairs or improve programming supports to licenced child-care centres through one-time grant funding for projects including:
- building repair and maintenance projects to keep child-care centres healthy and safe;
- innovative program enhancements to improve inclusivity and accessibility to indoor or outdoor spaces;
- wellness programs and tools to support and promote positive mental health in children and among staff; and
- professional development training to improve management skills, cultural competency or specialized training for children with special needs.
Grants were provided for qualifying projects of up to $25,000 for licensed child-care centres (including nursery schools), and $5,000 maximum for licenced home-based providers with priority given to facilities serving Indigenous, low-income, newcomer, francophone, and rural and northern communities, the minister noted.
