Manitoba Government Funding Mollard Road Repaving Project
The Manitoba government is improving the quality of life for residents of north Winnipeg by providing the City of Winnipeg with $6 million to repave Mollard Road and create a walking path, Premier Wab Kinew announced today.
“This important project will support community connectivity, enhance safety and security, and support economic growth by attracting new businesses,” said Kinew. “With the addition of a repaved road and new trail, families from across the city will be able to visit their place of worship, education and community more easily. They will see an improved quality of life in an area of Winnipeg that has been neglected for many years. Our government committed to this project and we are proud to see it through to completion.”
The project was citizen driven by members of the Sikh Society of Manitoba, who in 2021 celebrated the opening of a new building on Mollard Road that includes a school, library and place of worship.
“For decades, the community has been asking governments to recognize the importance of safe road infrastructure for the growing number of weekly visitors who use this road to access the Sikh Society of Manitoba,” said Gurmit Singh Panchhi, president of the Sikh Society of Manitoba. “We are extremely grateful this NDP government is following through on its commitment to fund the upgrade of Mollard Road.”
This project is funded through the Municipal Economic Development Infrastructure program. With a budget of $36.09 million for 2023-24, the program funds municipal projects that enhance safety and security. Other projects in the program include funding support for firefighters, community centres and wastewater infrastructure.
