Manitobans Asked To Comment On Motor Vehicle Information Disclosure Requirements
The provincial government wants to hear from Manitobans on what, when and how information should be disclosed to consumers when buying or leasing a motor vehicle, Finance Minister Greg Selinger announced today.
“The goal is to have clear rules in place to ensure consumers are aware of important information before buying or leasing a vehicle,” said Selinger. “This will ensure fairness in the marketplace and assist consumers in making more informed decisions.”
The government has amended the Business Practices Act to allow for the creation of a regulation that will outline information that must be disclosed in the purchase or lease of a motor vehicle by a consumer.
Interested members of the public can review a discussion paper, provide feedback on what information should be disclosed and when and how disclosures should occur. The results will assist in the creation of a new regulation, said Selinger.
Feedback on the discussion paper is requested by May 29 and should be sent to the Manitoba Consumers’ Bureau. The discussion paper can be found at www.gov.mb.ca/finance/cca/consumb.
