Free Admission To Provincial Parks For September Long Weekend

– – –
Backcountry Expanded In Beaudry Park, Nopiming Provincial Park

In addition to charging no admission fees to enter provincial parks on the Labour Day long weekend, Conservation Minister Stan Struthers announced today expansion of backcountry land in Beaudry Park and Nopiming Provincial Park.

“With the expansion of Beaudry and Nopiming parks, Manitobans will now be able to enjoy even more of our great natural vistas and landscapes,” said Struthers.  “And this weekend, we are pleased to offer Manitoba families one last outing to our provincial parks, free of charge, before school begins.”

Under the expansion, Beaudry will see the addition of 15 hectares of protected backcountry land added to the park, which is located near Headingley. Nopiming Provincial Park, north of the Whiteshell, will have 186 hectares designated as backcountry.  The designation, which adds 201 hectares of land to the province’s network of protected areas, protects the areas from logging, mining, hydro, oil and gas development, and other activities that significantly and adversely affect habitat.

The minister also reminded people using beaches in provincial parks to be water wise as accidents are preventable.

While there will be no admission fees to provincial parks on the Labour Day weekend (Aug.31 to Sept. 3 inclusive), camping fees will remain in place.

The minister added that fall camping will also be available in selected Manitoba provincial park campgrounds.
