Province Issues Wind Alert for Lake Winnipeg, Areas of Lake Manitoba

Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation's Hydrologic Forecasting and Water Management Centre reports the lake wind-effect forecast for tomorrow and Sunday suggests a high wind warning for the South Basin of Lake Winnipeg and a moderate wind warning for the south basin of Lake Manitoba.

North winds are forecast to increase throughout the day tomorrow and will continue increasing up to 65 kilometres per hour Sunday morning.  Wind speed is forecast to diminish late Sunday.

Wind speed and direction could raise levels by as much as three to five feet along the south shore of Lake Winnipeg and between one and two ft. on south shore of Lake Manitoba.  In addition, these winds can result in significant wave action on shorelines.

Property owners are encouraged to take precautions.
