Province Issues High Wind Alerts for Lake Winnipeg and Areas of Lake Manitoba
Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation’s Hydrologic Forecasting Centre reports that forecast high winds for tomorrow have resulted in a high wind warning for the South Basin of Lake Winnipeg and for the south basin of Lake Manitoba.
North winds are forecast to increase throughout this evening increasing up to 65 km/h tomorrow morning. Wind speed is forecast to gust up to 45 km/h into the weekend.
Wind speed and direction could raise levels by as much as three to five feet along the south shore of Lake Winnipeg and on the south shore of Lake Manitoba. In addition, these winds can result in significant wave action on shorelines.
Lake Manitoba is currently at 814.08 ft., while the South Basin of Lake Winnipeg was last measured at 715.3 ft.
Property owners are advised to take precautions.
