Red Deer Lake to Benefit from Improved Flood Protection Thanks to Government Partnership



RED DEER LAKE, Man.—Residents of Red Deer Lake were today assured that they can look forward to improved flood protection for their families and properties thanks to a joint federal-provincial investment in the Red Deer Lake Community Dikes Initiative.

The Community Dike Initiative provides new flood mitigation infrastructure to flood-prone communities. More specifically, the Red Deer Lake initiative will consist of building two dike sections to provide continuous flood protection around the community to prevent flooding in the entire area, which includes approximately 40 residences.

  • The governments of Canada and Manitoba will provide a joint contribution of $450,000 through the Provincial-Territorial Base Fund towards the Red Deer Lake initiative, through the Community Dikes Initiative.
  • The Government of Manitoba will also provide an additional $50,000 to the total initiative cost of $500,000.
