Province Issues Severe Wind Alerts for Lake Winnipeg, Areas of Lake Manitoba and Dauphin Lake



Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation’s Hydrologic Forecasting Centre reports that forecast high winds for later today have resulted in a severe wind warning for the South Basin of Lake Winnipeg and for the south basin of Lake Manitoba.  Forecast high winds have resulted in a moderate wind warning for the south basin of Dauphin Lake. 

Northwest winds are forecast to increase throughout the day up to 50 to 70 km/h into tonight. 

Wind speed and direction could raise levels by as much as six feet or greater along the south shore of Lake Winnipeg and on the south shore of Lake Manitoba.  In addition, these winds can result in significant wave action on shorelines.

 Property owners are advised to take precautions.
