Manitoba Government Announces Location of New QuickCare Clinic in Southdale
– – –QuickCare Clinics Keeping Health-care System Current, Accessible, Responsive to Needs of All Manitobans: Premier Selinger
The Manitoba government confirmed that a new QuickCare clinic will be built in Southdale to provide families with better access to primary care services while supporting the development of a more robust, sustainable health-care system, Premier Greg Selinger announced today
“With more than 120,000 patient visits to date, QuickCare clinics have been a major success story and have contributed to keeping our health-care system current, accessible and responsive to the needs of all Manitobans,” said Premier Selinger. “Our government is proud to bring this health-care option to Southdale residents as part of the plan to ensure all Manitobans who want a family doctor or a nurse practitioner have access to one by the end of the year.”
The Southdale QuickCare clinic will be located at 115 Vermillion Rd. and is the fifth location for Winnipeg.
QuickCare clinics are designed to meet the unexpected health-care needs of Manitobans and offer timely care for minor ailments and routine health needs like a minor infection, sore throat, earache or the flu.
“With five nurse practitioner-led QuickCare clinics in operation and three more to come, the Manitoba government is continuing to provide Manitoba families with the quality health care they need, right where they live,” said Health Minister Sharon Blady. “Our commitment to build strong, sustainable and co-ordinated health-care options for families remains a top priority.”
With weekend, evening and holiday hours, and community locations, QuickCare clinics are convenient for families when their regular health-care provider may not be available or when a visit to the emergency room is not required. The premier noted these clinics do not replace regular visits with a patient’susual health-care provider. They work jointly with local physicians and clinics, as part of My Health Team, to build strong and co-ordinated care options for families.
“Registered nurses and nurse practitioners working in Winnipeg’s QuickCare clinics have proven to be a valuable part of the health-care system,” said Lori Lamont, vice-president and chief nursing officer, Winnipeg Regional Health Authority. “The team at QuickCare can diagnose and treat minor injuries and illnesses when their patients are unable to see their own primary care provider, avoiding unnecessary trips to an emergency department.”
Premier Selinger noted that while most patients using this new clinic will likely live or work in the Southdale community, anyone can visit a QuickCare clinic. He added the new QuickCare clinic is expected to open in late 2015 or early 2016, and will be a member of one of the province’s new My Health Teams.
In addition to this new QuickCare clinic, Minister Blady said the Manitoba government continues to support several initiatives that will help link thousands of families with the health care they need when they need it. This includesfunding for new health-care professionals at doctors’ offices, the launch of My Health Teams in Winnipeg, Brandon and Steinbach, and the opening of the fifth QuickCare clinic in the province in January.
