Manitoba Government to Resume Normal Mail Distribution

The Manitoba government has been advised Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers have reached a tentative agreement, averting the risk of a postal service disruption.

The province will resume sending government cheques as well as non-essential materials through the mail today.  Distribution centres set up for Manitobans to pick up their cheques will close on
Sept. 6.  Any cheques at the distribution centres at that time will then be mailed out to recipients.  Recipients should allow four to six days to have this mail processed and delivered.

Individuals can call 1-866-626-4862 (toll-free in Manitoba) or visit www.manitoba.ca/notice for more information.  Manitobans are also encouraged to contact the department issuing their cheques or other documents directly to find out if they will be mailed or should be picked up.

The Manitoba government mails approximately 50,000 cheques every month.
