Province Announces Selkirk Mental Health Centre now Accredited with Exemplary Standing

Selkirk Mental Health Centre has achieved the highest level of accreditation possible for a health-care centre, an exemplary standing established by an independent national agency, Health, Seniors and Active Living Minister Kelvin Goertzen announced today.

“The staff of Selkirk Mental Health Centre work extremely hard to make sure patients receive the best possible care,” said Goertzen.  “This achievement means they have gone beyond Accreditation Canada’s requirements and have demonstrated true excellence.  I want to commend them for their dedication and commitment to quality health care.”

Accreditation Canada is an independent, non-profit agency that accredits hospitals, clinics, labs, home care, community health services, health authorities and many other sites and services.

To achieve the exemplary standing, the facility met all 89 required organizational practices and 99.1 per cent of its standards (676 out of 682), a significant achievement for such a large health-care facility.

The minister noted that achieving the highest level of accreditation is a direct benefit to Manitobans.

“This achievement means the services provided are recognized nationally as exceptionally high quality,” said Goertzen.  “Thanks to the many years of hard work and dedication by all of the centre’s employees, Selkirk Mental Health Centre is now recognized as one of the best facilities in the country.”
