Province Welcomes New Canada Goose Manufacturing Facility in Winnipeg

Premier Brian Pallister, Growth, Enterprise and Trade Minister Blaine Pedersen, and Education and Training Minister Kelvin Goertzen today attended the official opening of the third Canada Goose manufacturing facility in Winnipeg.
“Canada Goose’s continued expansion in our province is proof we have the right conditions here in Manitoba for businesses to grow and compete in the global market,” said Pallister. “We are competing for investments and succeeding. With our talented workforce and abundant supply of clean, renewable energy, we are showing Canada and the world that Manitoba is once again open for business.”
The premier noted more than 700 jobs are being created because of the new facility, which is good news for Manitoba’s economy.
The province is contributing up to $1.48 million from Manitoba Education and Training’s Industry and Labour Force Investment Fund toward the total project cost of $15.8 million. The funding will support the onboarding and technical training of the new sewing machine operators over three years.
Based on Manitoba’s economic impact assessment projections, the project is expected to generate $8.2 million in provincial tax revenue over a four-year period with a 100 per cent return on Manitoba’s investment anticipated, the premier noted. The success of the project will be measured on the following outcomes:
- new sewing machine operator jobs are filled and sustained for 2080 hours;
- new employees receive specialized training to increase their skills and productivity;
- higher production capacity to meet current demand and future growth plans;
- increased global competitiveness with the addition of the new facility and production lines; and
- reduction in the number of at-risk individuals on employment and income assistance as a result of Canada Goose’s continued partnership with Opportunities for Employment.
“Since forming government in 2016, business confidence in Manitoba has risen from the lowest in the country,” said Pallister. “We’re seeing this confidence on full display as Canada Goose opens its third manufacturing facility in Winnipeg. Manitoba is well on its way to becoming Canada’s most-improved province.”
Canada Goose manufactures some of the most sought-after winter outerwear in the world. It currently employs approximately 3,000 people around the world, who make products that are sold in more than 38 countries. The company has made a commitment to keeping production on Canadian soil.
