Winnipeg Drivers to Enjoy Safer, More Efficient Roadways
– – –Funding for Improvements to 49 Sections of Road Across the City
WINNIPEG—Ensuring regional roads are safe and well maintained is crucial to economic growth, facilitating trade and creating well-paid, middle-class jobs.
Today, Dan Vandal, member of Parliament for Saint Boniface–Saint Vital, on behalf of the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, the Honourable Jeff Wharton, Minister of Municipal Relations, and His Worship Brian Bowman, Mayor of Winnipeg, announced $315.9 million in federal, provincial and municipal funding for significant improvements to Winnipeg’s regional road network.
The governments of Canada and Manitoba are each contributing up to $100 million for these projects under the New Building Canada Fund–Provincial-Territorial Infrastructure Component–National and Regional Projects. The City of Winnipeg is providing $115.9 million.
Work involves rebuilding and rehabilitating 49 segments of roadway across the city, including sidewalk repairs and drainage improvements. These enhancements will increase driver and pedestrian safety and improve transportation routes for businesses across the city.

• Through the Investing in Canada infrastructure plan, the Government of Canada will invest more than $180 billion over 12 years in public transit projects, green infrastructure, social infrastructure, trade and transportation routes, and Canada’s rural and northern communities.
• More than $10.1 billion of this funding will support trade and transportation projects, including $5 billion that will be available for investment through the Canada Infrastructure Bank.
