Province Encourages Manitobans to Participate in 24-Hour Giving Challenge

Manitoba Municipal Relations is reminding Manitobans that tomorrow is the Endow Manitoba 24-Hour Giving Challenge.

For every $5 donation made to a community foundation, the Province of Manitoba and The Winnipeg Foundation will also contribute $1.  For one day only, each $5 gift becomes $7 to a maximum of $2,000 per foundation.

Gifts must be made to a community foundation’s undesignated fund.  Ways to give include:

  • making secure online gifts through www.endowmanitoba.ca;
  • calling The Winnipeg Foundation tomorrow between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to make a gift by credit card over the phone at 204-944-9474 or 1-877-974-3631 (toll-free); and
  • contacting local community foundations on or tomorrow to give by cheque.

With 55 community foundations across the province, Manitoba is home to the most community foundations per capita in the country.  Visit www.endowmanitoba.ca to find a local foundation.

Established in 2014, Endow Manitoba’s 24-Hour Giving Challenge is administered by The Winnipeg Foundation, providing incentives for rural community foundations to build their primary fund, generally called its undesignated fund.  The goal of the challenge is to raise general awareness of community foundations as a way for Manitobans to support their community.

The province first participated in the Endow Manitoba 24-Hour Giving Challenge in 2017, which resulted in a 46 per cent increase in the number of private gifts and a 67 per cent increase in value of private gifts.  After successful results in 2017, the Manitoba government recently announced it will be providing up to $225,000 over three years to The Winnipeg Foundation to support further provincial participation.
