Water Treatment Plant in RM of Gimli Officially Opens
GIMLI—A new water treatment plant is officially open in the RM of Gimli, Infrastructure and Communities Minister François-Philippe Champagne, Municipal Relations Minister Jeff Wharton, and Mayor Lynn Greenberg, RM of Gimli, announced today.
“It’s great to see this project reach completion in Gimli,” said Champagne. “These vital upgrades to the community’s aging water infrastructure have renewed the water distribution system and extended its life, ensuring clean drinking water will be available to residents of Gimli and Pelican Beach for years to come. Our government is proud to support projects like this, which safeguard public health while laying the groundwork for economic prosperity and sustainable growth.”
“By working together with all levels of government we are able to make large investments in local infrastructure to ensure that Manitobans have modern and reliable services,” said Wharton. “The completion of this project means water will be treated to a higher quality and will lay the foundation for future drinking water system expansions in the municipality.”
The project consisted of the construction of a new water treatment plant at the site of the existing Gimli Industrial Park reservoirs, two new wells, and the installation of approximately 8,000 metres of pipeline to connect the new facility to the existing Gimli town site, the Pelican Beach water plant and a condominium complex. An additional 1,200 m of water main were replaced, as well as 140 m of service piping to property lines and related works for approximately 35 existing properties.
“The council of the RM of Gimli is a proud partner in this key project,” said Greenburg. “The completion of this project will further protect and enhances our public water system.”
The Government of Canada provided $3.5 million toward the project through the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund, while the government of Manitoba and the RM of Gimli each provided $1.75 million.
