Premier Brian Pallister's Statement on the Passing of Kathleen Margaret Richardson

On behalf of all Manitobans, I would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Kathleen Margaret Richardson.

Miss Richardson has left an indelible mark on Manitoba, not only for her efforts as a business leader, philanthropist and community volunteer, but also as a true champion of the arts.  Her generosity with many arts and cultural organizations will leave a lasting legacy for generations to come.

Her dedication to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet spans many decades, serving as its president from 1957 to 1961, followed by honorary president from 1963 right up to her passing.  Among her many accomplishments, Miss Richardson chaired the fundraising campaign for the RWB’s permanent home in downtown Winnipeg.

From 1954 to 1998, Miss Richardson served as a director of James Richardson and Sons and made many notable contributions such as the expansion of Pioneer Grain and the development of Lombard Place, which includes the Richardson Building – a Manitoba landmark.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Richardson family during this difficult time.
