Province Advises Floodway Will Be Activated at Approximately 7 p.m. Tonight

Manitoba Infrastructure’s Hydrologic Forecast Centre reports the Red River Floodway will be activated at approximately 7 p.m. tonight.

The centre continues monitoring a system forecast to bring substantial precipitation to the Winnipeg area starting on Thursday.

Heavy rains across the Red River Basin in September have resulted in river levels at record highs for this time of year.

In advance of this significant precipitation, the Red River Floodway will operate under Rule 4 beginning at approximately 7 p.m. to lower levels within the city of Winnipeg.

The province is working closely with rural municipalities along the Red River from the border to Lake Winnipeg to provide information and assistance as needed.

Provincial staff are also in the impacted areas monitoring water levels and provincial infrastructure.
