Province Advises New Mobile Testing Site to Open in Winnipeg Today

Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living advises a new mobile testing site for COVID-19 will open today at 1181 Portage Ave. in Winnipeg operating from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., seven days a week.

Initially, the mobile site will add immediate additional capacity in Winnipeg, while new drive-thru sites are set up in the city. After this, provincial public health information will be used to determine where the mobile site will be deployed in Manitoba if a community requires a rapid increasing in capacity to deal with a spike in cases.

The locations of the additional new drive-thru sites will include one site in east Winnipeg on Regent Avenue West, one in the Polo Park area on King Edward Street and one in the south part of the city, with the option to add a fourth site in Winnipeg if needed.

In addition, drive-thru sites will be opened in Brandon, Winkler, Portage and Dauphin in the coming weeks. Additional information about locations in these communities will be provided as sites open.

Manitobans are reminded that only individuals experiencing COVID-19 symptoms should go for testing. Individuals with symptoms are asked to seek testing as soon as possible once symptoms are present. Employers are asked to only send employees for testing if they have symptoms or if testing has been recommended by public health officials.

The online assessment tool can be found at https://sharedhealthmb.ca/covid19/screening-tool/and COVID-19 symptoms can be found at www.gov.mb.ca/covid19/updates/about.html#collapse4.
