Request for Proposals Issued for Development of Master Health Facilities Plan for Bannatyne Health Campus
The province of Manitoba has issued a request for proposals to support the development of a master capital plan for the Health Sciences Centre’s (HSC) Bannatyne health campus in Winnipeg, Health, Seniors and Active Living Minister Cameron Friesen announced today.
“Health Sciences Centre is Manitoba’s largest and busiest health-care facility, supporting the health-care needs of our province’s sickest and most critically injured patients,” said Friesen. “As our government modernizes access to health care across Manitoba, bringing many services closer to home, HSC will continue to play a central role in delivering specialized care for adults and children.”
The Bannatyne health campus covers 39 acres of land with more than four million square feet of occupied space. It includes Manitoba’s busiest emergency department (ED) and the province’s tertiary care centre, Manitoba’s children’s hospital and ED, a dedicated women’s facility, ambulatory clinics and the Crisis Response Centre at HSC, as well as Cadham Provincial Laboratory, CancerCare Manitoba, HSC Foundation and Children’s Hospital Foundation. The site is also a teaching hospital, formally affiliated with the University of Manitoba and other post-secondary institutions, and the location of the University of Manitoba’s Rady Faculty of Health Sciences.
“We are committed to developing a master capital plan for the HSC campus, to ensure we are prepared to meet the future needs of Manitoba patients, with investments to address aging infrastructure and new developments in a planned and consistent way,” said Friesen.
This work will include input from stakeholders at HSC Winnipeg as well as partner organizations that deliver care and services in the area.
Announced earlier this year, this project encompasses master planning work to support the implementation of Manitoba’s Clinical and Preventive Services Plan with appropriate physical space, infrastructure and prioritized investment. The planning will consider the need to address aging infrastructure, modernize health-care delivery models, and align clinical services with the roles and services of partner organizations and foundations. This includes the creation of a dedicated stroke unit and the consolidation of ambulatory care services.
The minister noted that in the past, the absence of a comprehensive assessment of the HSC campus meant that mistakes were made and planned investments were delayed.
The master plan will include an inventory of campus facilities and clinical services and will consider what shifts in the location of specific clinical services are needed to support the site’s ability to meet both current and future population needs.
The request for proposals closes on Jan. 15, 2021.
