Province Advises Text Message Alerts Now Offered to Notify When COVID-19 Test Results are Available

Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living is advising that starting today, those who have been tested for COVID-19 and provided their cellphone number may receive a text letting them know their test result is available online.

The results of the test are not available in the text message for safety and privacy reasons. The Manitoba government will not use the phone number provided except to notify people about their test result or perform contact tracing, if necessary. If you did not provide your cellphone number to receive a text message notification, results will still be available for you to check online when ready.

Text message notifications will be available for tests taken at a limited number of testing sites in Winnipeg to start, and will be expanded to more sites throughout the province in the coming days.

The change is expected to reduce the number of calls to Health Links–Info Santé for information on when test results are ready.

Manitobans can find information and make an appointment for a COVID-19 test at certain locations by calling (toll-free) 1-855-268-4318 or going online at www.manitoba.ca/COVID19

Only individuals experiencing COVID-19 symptoms should go for testing. Individuals with symptoms are asked to seek testing as soon as possible. The online assessment tool can be found at https://sharedhealthmb.ca/covid19/screening-tool/ and COVID-19 symptoms can be found at https://manitoba.ca/covid19/fundamentals/symptoms.html
