COVID-19 Vaccine Bulletin #51

Appointments and Eligibility Criteria

Today, eligibility to be immunized at a super site or pop-up clinic is being expanded to include individuals aged 77 or older and First Nation people aged 57 or older.

Over the weekend, criteria were expanded to also include:
• health-care workers, who may or may not provide direct patient care, working in outpatient health care settings including clinics, diagnostic imaging, laboratories, patient transport, blood donor centres, surgical centres, elderly day programs and home-based care (expanded to include workers without direct patient care, no age restrictions); and
• people working in congregate living facilities (no age restrictions).

Appointments are currently available for the super sites in Winnipeg, Brandon, Thompson, Selkirk and Morden and at pop-up sites located across the province.

Individuals should visit www.gov.mb.ca/covid19/vaccine/eligibility-criteria.html to determine if they are eligible to make an appointment. If eligible, call (toll-free) 1-844-626-8222 (1-844-MAN-VACC). Everyone who calls is screened to ensure they meet current eligibility criteria before booking an appointment.

The average wait time for the call centre is expected to be less than 10 minutes and a call-back option is available. An online booking tool is currently being tested. More information will be provided about this option when it becomes available.

The Covishield (AstraZeneca) vaccine is now available through some medical clinics and pharmacies. Nearly 200 locations throughout the province have received 18,000 doses. For more information about this vaccine, including its eligibility criteria and how to access it if you are eligible, visit www.gov.mb.ca/covid19/vaccine/eligibility-criteria.html

Vaccine Administration

To date, 106,931 doses of vaccine have been administered, including 73,009 first doses and 33,922 second doses. This data includes vaccine administered at medical clinics and pharmacies, though there may be a slight delay in reporting from some of these locations.

This week, Focused Immunization Teams (FITs) will visit more than 70 congregate living facilities with an estimated 3,600 beds. The first dose of vaccine will be provided to all eligible and consenting residents. To date, more than 6,900 residents at 253 congregate living facilities have received their first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Morden super site, located at the Access Event Centre, will open on March 22. The Winnipeg super site at the RBC Convention Centre has expanded to include the third floor and is expected to launch this month as vaccine supplies become available.

Pop-up vaccination clinics will begin this week in rural and northern Manitoba communities, for people who meet current provincial eligibility criteria. Appointments are required and can be made through the provincial call centre. The initial two-week schedule is available at www.manitoba.ca/vaccine and will be updated regularly as new clinics are planned.

Eight communities participated in the two-week pilot project at Vaxport in Thompson. In total, 706 eligible residents aged 18 and up received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Vaxport will continue to be available as an immunization site option for First Nation communities, Northern Affairs communities and remote northern communities identified under the community prioritization index.

Vaccine Supply and Distribution

To date, a total of 159,220 doses of vaccine have been delivered to Manitoba. This includes:
• 112,320 doses of Pfizer vaccine;
• 28,900 doses of the Moderna vaccine; and
• 18,000 doses of the AstraZeneca/Covishield vaccine.

An additional 20,500 doses of Moderna vaccine have been received by the province and will be reflected in tomorrow’s online dashboard.

This week, the province expects to receive 14,040 doses of Pfizer.

Additional Information

All data in this bulletin is current as of March 14, unless noted otherwise.
