COVID-19 Vaccine Bulletin #56

Appointments and Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility to be immunized at a super site or pop-up clinic is unchanged, and includes individuals aged 65 or older and First Nation people aged 45 or older.

Anyone who has been in Manitoba for one month or more can receive the vaccine at no cost if they meet provincial eligibility requirements.  This applies to international students, visitors, migrant workers and people providing caregiving to others.

Appointments are currently available at super sites in Winnipeg, Brandon, Thompson, Selkirk and Morden.  Pop-up sites and appointments have opened up in many communities and are now taking appointments. Additional pop-ups sites and appointments will also be opening up, beginning the week of April 21 and more will be announced in the coming weeks.

Eligible individuals can book their appointment at a super site online at https://protectmb.ca with an email address and their health card number.  Appointments for supersites or pop-ups can also be made by calling (toll-free) 1-844-626-8222 (1-844-MAN-VACC).

When attending a vaccine appointment, people are reminded to bring their completed consent form (available online at https://protectmb.ca), wear a short-sleeved shirt, wear a mask and bring their health card. To help support good physical distancing on site, people should arrive no more than 15 minutes before their scheduled appointment time.

Based on scientific evidence of the effectiveness of the first dose, Manitoba is focusing its immunization efforts on providing as many first doses as possible to protect more people. At this time, only first-dose appointments are available and the province will provide more information about planning for second doses in the weeks ahead. For regular updates, visit https://protectmb.ca and sign up for the weekly e-newsletter.

Vaccine Administration

To date, 157,399 doses of vaccine have been administered including 106,131 first doses and 51,268 second doses. This data includes vaccine administered at medical clinics and pharmacies, though there may be a slight delay in reporting from some of these locations.

This week, Focused Immunization Teams (FITs) visited 101 congregate living facilities. FITs will visit another 103 congregate living facilities throughout the province next week. Total number of doses administered to date 11,103, with a total of 387 sites visited.

With the pilot phase now completed at Thompson’s Vaxport, this facility will now be a backup location to the Thompson super site, should travel or weather-related issues arise. All of the people living in communities that participated in the pilot project at Vaxport will be scheduled for second-dose immunizations at the Thompson super site by mid-April.

Vaccine Supply and Distribution

To date, a total of 248,180 doses of vaccine have been delivered to Manitoba. This includes:
• 168,480 doses of Pfizer vaccine;
• 61,700 doses of the Moderna vaccine; and
• 18,000 doses of the AstraZeneca/Covishield vaccine.

Every dose of vaccine in Manitoba has either been:
• administered to a person at an appointment;
• allocated for immunizations with our partners, including First Nations, or the distributed model with medical clinics and pharmacies; or
• booked for an appointment expected to take place within the next five days.

Next week, Manitoba is expected to receive 40,950  doses of Pfizer.
