Statement from Sport, Culture and Heritage Minister Cathy Cox on Pride Winnipeg 2021

Pride Winnipeg is part of a global movement for everyone to come together in solidarity to raise awareness and support the 2SLGBTQ+ community in our province, country and beyond.

Pride is a celebration of identity, individuality and inclusivity. It is also a time to acknowledge the barriers and violence that 2SLGBTQ+ people continue to face and to advocate for safety, equality and accessibility, worldwide.

While we could not gather in person for Pride Winnipeg events this year, the spirit of celebration is as strong and vibrant as ever. The Pride flag will remain flown at Memorial Park until sunset this evening to coincide with the conclusion of this year’s festival.

As the 2021 Virtual Pride comes to a close, I want to commend Pride Winnipeg, their organizing committee, staff and volunteers for their ongoing work and dedication to provide all of us the opportunity to safely celebrate Pride this year, despite these challenging times.
