Manitoba Government Announces Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal

A new Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal (Manitoba) is being created to celebrate the 70th anniversary year of Queen Elizabeth’s accession to the throne, Lt.-Gov. Janice Filmon and Premier Heather Stefanson announced today.

“As we celebrate Her Majesty’s 70 years of extraordinary service as Queen of Canada and head of the Commonwealth, this commemorative medal allows us to pay tribute to the Queen’s devotion to duty and her kindness and compassion to all by recognizing citizens across Manitoba who also make service to their communities a priority,” said Lt.-Gov. Filmon. “I look forward to recognizing the generous and inspiring people of this wonderful province we are so proud to call home.”

The Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal program will honour significant contributions and achievements throughout Manitoba during this unprecedented anniversary year, noted the premier. From June 2022 onwards, 1,000 medals will be awarded to deserving Manitobans.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to recognize Her Majesty’s 70 years of remarkable service to the Commonwealth and to commend our community members for their dedication and compassion to make Manitoba a place of hope and opportunity,” said Stefanson. “Manitobans have a long and proud history for giving back and I look forward to honouring and celebrating their service and achievements.”

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee is the international celebration marking the 70th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II to the thrones of seven countries including Canada on Feb. 6, 1952. She is the first monarch in Canada’s modern era to have celebrated a platinum jubilee. The Queen has visited Manitoba six times, first as a princess in 1951 and most recently in 2010.

More information about the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal (Manitoba) will be available in the coming weeks.
