Province Announces Byelection Set for December 13 in Kirkfield Park



Premier Heather Stefanson announced today that a byelection for the provincial constituency of Kirkfield Park will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 13.

This is the fifth byelection called under legislation introduced in 2016 to ensure byelections to fill a vacancy in the legislature would be called within 180 days.

The vacancy in Kirkfield Park was created by the resignation of former cabinet minister Scott Fielding on June 17.

The necessary documents providing for the Dec.13 byelection were signed and issued today.

The chief electoral officer will be issuing an additional press release in the upcoming days that will indicate polling times, locations, and the dates and locations of advance polls.

There are currently 35 Progressive Conservatives, 18 New Democrats, three independent Liberals and one vacant seat in the Manitoba legislature.
