Manitoba Government Recognizes National Francophone Immigration Week from Nov. 5 to 11

The Manitoba government has proclaimed the week of Nov. 5 to 11 as National Francophone Immigration Week in the province, announced Labour and Immigration Minister Malaya Marcelino and Sport, Culture, Heritage and Tourism Minister Glen Simard, minister responsible for francophone affairs.

“Our government is proud to recognize the founding role of the francophone community in the province,” said Simard. “Francophone immigration is an essential element of our efforts to support and enhance the vitality of the Manitoban Francophonie, and we remain committed to working collaboratively with stakeholders throughout the province to help make our communities stronger and more inclusive.”

As part of the week’s activities, the Department of Labour and Immigration, in partnership with the Réseau en immigration francophone du Manitoba (RIF-MB), is hosting a webinar to promote the province and provide immigration-specific information to francophones interested in moving to Manitoba. The webinar will take place on Nov. 8 at 10 a.m. CST.

“Manitoba is an attractive settlement destination for top global talent from around the world and our province is uniquely situated to welcome more francophone immigrants,” said Marcelino. “We are happy to bolster strategic recruitment efforts to support this objective.”

From 2005 to 2022, 4,430 French-speaking immigrants across all immigration categories landed in Manitoba, most arriving through the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program.

Under the theme ‘A Welcoming Land,’ this year’s National Francophone Immigration Week celebrates the rich cultural diversity of French-speaking newcomers and encourages reflection on what it means to be a welcoming land.

National Francophone Immigration Week is co-ordinated at the national level by the Federation of Francophone and Acadian Communities of Canada and at the provincial and territorial levels by Francophone immigration networks, or RIFs.
