Two New Judges Appointed to Provincial Court
Attorney General Dave Chomiak today announced the appointment of Robert Pollack, QC, and Rodney Garson to the provincial court of Manitoba. The new judges will fill openings in Winnipeg. Their appointments are effective immediately.
“I am pleased to appoint two highly-regarded individuals who have shown significant commitments to the administration of justice in Manitoba,” said Chomiak. “I am confident they will serve the best interests of all Manitobans and will be able to call upon their years of legal experience as they take on their new roles.”
Robert (Rocky) Pollack began his legal career with the Manitoba attorney general’s department in 1972 and later worked as a Crown attorney until moving into private practice in 1976. His most recent position was partner at Myers Weinberg LLP. He has also held the appointed position of commissioner of the Manitoba Securities Commission since 2002. Pollack’s work has focused on criminal law and extends to other areas including child protection, victims’ rights, administrative law and civil litigation. He has also been an active member of the community serving on many boards and agencies over the years.
Rodney Garson graduated from the faculty of law at McGill University in 1988. In 1990, he joined Justice Canada in Whitehorse where he conducted criminal prosecutions and later worked as a litigator in the private bar. Since 1999, Garson has held positions in Manitoba Justice and Justice Canada. He recently held the position of Crown counsel with the Constitutional Law Branch of Manitoba Justice where his work focused on Charter of Rights and Freedoms issues in criminal and Aboriginal law. He has also been active in the community, particularly in the areas of community-based justice initiatives and continuing legal education.
A swearing-in ceremony will be scheduled as soon as possible.
