Manitoba Government Hosting Town Hall on New Victoria Hospital Emergency Department
– – –South Winnipeg Families Invited to Weigh in on New Designs: Asagwara
The Manitoba government invites Manitobans to weigh in on the design of the new Victoria Hospital emergency department (ED) at a town hall on May 6 at 6 p.m. at the South Winnipeg Community Centre, 666 Silverstone Ave., Winnipeg, Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care Minister Uzoma Asagwara announced today.
“For too long, families in south Winnipeg have gone without emergency care in their community after the previous government closed the Victoria ED,” said Asagwara. “We’re taking the next step in our commitment to build a new ED at the Vic, bringing the front lines and community into the planning process. I encourage folks to come out to the town hall and contribute to the future of urgent care in your community.”
Asagwara noted they will also consult front-line staff on April 15 at Victoria Hospital to understand their priorities for a new ED in the facility. Community members and health-care workers who are unable to attend the in-person consultations will be able to offer their feedback in an online survey.
Work on the design for the emergency department and supporting services is ongoing, with planned construction tenders being issued later this year, added Asagwara. The Manitoba government’s progress on building the new Victoria ED comes alongside widespread investments to bring care closer to home, noted the minister, including reopening the Carberry ED, opening minor injury and illness clinics in Winnipeg and Brandon, and developing the designs for the Eriksdale ED in the Interlake region.
