Statement From Premier Wab Kinew on Canada Day
Happy Canada Day!
Today, I encourage Manitobans to come together with friends, family and community to celebrate Canada, the country we all love so much.
This Canada Day is as important to celebrate as ever. Not only does it mark the 80th anniversary of Canada celebrating its role in the Second World War victory over fascism in Europe, but this year Canadians stood strong together in the face of Donald Trump’s threats to our sovereignty. In April, I was so proud to see the Legislative Building adorned with a massive Canadian flag as we held a rally for Canada with hundreds of Manitobans to send a clear message to the world that we will never become the 51st state.
We saw Canadians from all walks of life come together to cheer on our hockey team in the 4 Nations Face-Off this February with a dramatic overtime win. It doesn’t matter where you come from or what you believe in, we are all patriots on July 1.
You’ve seen premiers from coast to coast to coast agree to build up this country and make our economy more resilient for the next generation. As a government, we are always going to stand up for your jobs and for your livelihoods.
We all love Canada, we will always be the true north, strong and free.
Vive le Canada!
