A new extended-hours primary care clinic at St. Boniface Hospital is opening this week, offering another option for convenient, after-hours primary care for Winnipeg residents, Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care Minister Uzoma Asagwara announced today.

“Our health does not adhere to a 9-to-5 weekday schedule and neither should our health care,” said Asagwara. “This allows more options for everyday Manitobans balancing their busy schedules.”

The clinic will be open every day of the year from 5:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. during the week and 1 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on weekends, to accommodate people’s schedules.

“We know how important it is for people to be able to see a health-care provider at a time that works for them,” said Dr. Joss Reimer, chief medical officer of health, Winnipeg Regional Health Authority. “One of our priorities is expanding access to timely and convenient primary care in Winnipeg. This newest clinic is another option in Winnipeg for people and their families who need care when their regular provider isn’t available or if they don’t have one.”

The clinic is staffed by a multi-disciplinary health-care team, including physicians, registered nurses and primary care assistants, and will have access to laboratory services and X-ray where necessary.

“This new clinic is a welcome addition to St. Boniface Hospital and should serve as a good option for patients in the community,” said Nicole Aminot, president and CEO, St. Boniface Hospital. “St. Boniface Hospital is a proudly bilingual institution and as ‘l'hôpital de chez-nous,’ we are thrilled the clinic will be staffed with bilingual providers to offer care to the francophone community.”

Three other extended-hours primary care clinics have opened under this government:

• Grace Hospital,
• Concordia Hospital, and
• Victoria Hospital.

The new clinic has been added to the MediNav portal. Patients can book same-day appointments at all the clinics online at https://medinav.ca/.
