Manitoba Government Launches 2025 Wildfire Disaster Financial Assistance Program to Support Impacted Communities
The Manitoba government is launching the 2025 wildfire Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) program to help municipalities recover from the devastating impacts of this year’s unprecedented wildfire season, Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Lisa Naylor announced today.
“This has been the most severe wildfire season in Manitoba’s history and our government is committed to supporting municipalities as they work to recover,” said Naylor. “Lives have been lost, families displaced and communities deeply affected. Our government stands with Manitobans during this difficult time and is committed to helping municipalities rebuild and recover.”
The DFA program will provide financial support for actions undertaken by municipalities and local authorities that have either been directly impacted or have incurred significant costs while hosting evacuees including:
- pre-emptive preparation efforts,
- emergency response operations,
- recovery and restoration activities,
- relief and recovery support, and
- long-term wildfire mitigation strategies.
“We’ve witnessed incredible acts of compassion and resilience from communities across Manitoba,” said Naylor. “From opening their doors to evacuees to mobilizing emergency resources, these communities have shown what it means to care for one another. This program is one way we’re ensuring they’re not alone in the recovery process.”
