The governments of Canada and Manitoba are investing $159,000 in Duha Color Services Ltd. (Duha), the world’s largest manufacturer of paint swatches and colour charts, to support facility upgrades and the training of 136 workers, federal Jobs and Families Minister Patty Hajdu and Manitoba Business, Mining, Trade and Job Creation Minister Jamie Moses announced today.
Duha recently acquired one of its largest competitors, the U.S.-based Colwell Color Ltd., and will relocate equipment and operations to Winnipeg from Colwell’s Indiana facility. The move will create 94 new positions and provide training for 42 existing employees, Moses noted, strengthening Duha’s workforce and increasing production capacity.
“Canada’s strength lies in the resilience and innovation of our people,” said Hajdu. “By investing in Duha, we’re not just supporting a business, we’re empowering Manitobans with the skills and opportunities to thrive in a changing global economy. This is what building a strong, competitive Canada looks like: creating good jobs, fostering growth and ensuring our communities lead the way.”
The company’s facility modifications and new equipment will improve productivity and allow Duha to integrate Colwell’s customer base and technology, positioning the company to potentially grow its global market share to 50 per cent by 2030.
“Our focus is on creating good jobs for Manitobans and supporting the businesses that make it possible,” said Moses. “At a time when tariffs are creating uncertainty, investments like this show how we can attract new opportunities, create jobs here at home and strengthen Manitoba’s economy.”
The cost-shared investment through the Canada–Manitoba Labour Market Transfer Agreement will help Duha train a total of 136 employees as it integrates new technologies, improves productivity and meets growing global demand.
“This support from both levels of government helps us invest in our people, technology and community,” said Rick Duha, chief business officer, Duha. “It allows us to continue growing our operations and reinforcing Winnipeg’s role as our global manufacturing hub.”
Founded in 1948, Duha’s headquarters and largest manufacturing facility are in Winnipeg, with operations and partnerships in the United States, China, Germany, Malaysia, Singapore and Australia, serving customers in more than 130 countries.
