Manitoba Government Invests $2.6 Million in Parkland and Westman Municipalities
– – –Funding Supports More Recreation Options for Families in Grandview: Simard
The Manitoba government is investing more than $2.6 million in five critical infrastructure projects with grants through the Manitoba Growth, Renewal and Opportunities for Municipalities (Manitoba GRO) program that will support rural municipalities in Manitoba’s Parkland and Westman regions, Municipal and Northern Relations Minister Glen Simard announced today.
“These projects reflect the strength of local collaboration and the importance of building sustainable communities,” said Simard. “This funding will help municipalities deliver the infrastructure families and businesses rely on every day, including veterinary services, recreation facilities, and critical road and bridge upgrades. This is the first Manitoba GRO project funded through a regional co-operation application, allowing multiple municipalities to work together on shared priorities.”
This year, the Manitoba government allowed—for the first time—municipalities to submit joint applications with neighbouring communities, enabling smaller RMs to pool resources and receive funding for projects that are shared regional priorities. The five projects represent the first group awarded funding through the 2025-26 Manitoba GRO rollout, a $42-million grant program that supports critical infrastructure for municipalities located outside Winnipeg.
“The Association of Manitoba Municipalities (AMM) appreciates timely investments in local infrastructure across Manitoba,” said Kathy Valentino, president, AMM. “Provincial funding toward these projects improves quality of life for residents in local communities and assists local councils in addressing infrastructure needs.”
The five projects receiving funding are:
- Grandview Community Sustainability Initiative ($1,262,314) – Grandview Municipality;
- Swan River Legion Park Revitalization ($225,000) – Town of Swan River;
- Road and Bridge Rehabilitation Project ($438,145) – Municipality of Ste Rose;
- Oliniyk Bridge Repairs ($59,150) – RM of Mountain; and
- Veterinary Clinic Expansion ($671,664) – RMs of Minto-Odanah, Harrison Park and Clanwilliam-Erickson, as well as the Town of Minnedosa (joint application).
“Grandview Municipality is very excited and very pleased to partner with the Manitoba government on a major upgrade project to our recreation facilities,” said Mayor Lyle Morran, Grandview Municipality. “We want to thank Premier Wab Kinew, Municipal and Northern Relations Minister Glen Simard and Agriculture Minister Ron Kostyshyn for supporting our community and the entire Parkland region.”
Municipalities advocated for an earlier application intake and award to enable the inclusion of critical infrastructure projects in upcoming budget processes, the minister noted.
