Manitoba Government Celebrates Northern Manitoba Trappers' Festival

THE PAS—The Manitoba government is inviting Manitobans and visitors to experience the best of the north at the 79th annual Northern Manitoba Trappers’ Festival, Sport, Culture, Heritage and Tourism Minister Nellie Kennedy announced here today.

“The Northern Manitoba Trappers’ Festival remains one of our province’s most cherished winter traditions,” said Kennedy. “It is a chance for residents and visitors to come together and experience the spirit, resilience and culture that defines northern Manitoba.”

The Manitoba government has invested $25,000 in this year’s Trappers’ Festival, Manitoba’s longest-running winter celebration. The festival runs from Feb. 18 to 22.

“We are extremely grateful for the continued support from the Manitoba government,” said Lorie Stevenson, chairperson, Northern Manitoba Trappers’ Festival. “For five days, Trappers’ Festival celebrates the long and storied history of the northern way of life. As the longest-running winter festival in Manitoba, we take great pride in showcasing our history. Ongoing government support helps ensure we can continue this tradition.”

This year’s theme, ‘Where the Trappers Mix in 2026,’ celebrates trapper traditions, stories, skills and cultural practices that have shaped life in the north for generations. Festival events include world-class dog races, the King and Queen Trapper competitions, snow and ice sculpture displays, logger events, the popular ice worm and weasel hunt and a full slate of family‑friendly activities.
