Economy, Energy and Trade on Agenda for Western Premiers Meeting in Yukon

Premier Gary Doer is joining his counterparts from western and northern Canada at the annual Western Premiers Conference (WPC) in Dawson City, Yukon, where he will focus on economic issues including the rise of protectionism in the United States and the growing demand for renewable energy.

“Trade, energy and climate change these are areas where we face serious challenges today and which are absolutely critical to the prosperity of our province,” Doer said. “We are a trading province, a leading producer of renewable energy and we have a strong climate-change plan. We can do more to build on these strengths.”

Other issues to be raised at the WPC include exploring ways premiers can further address U.S.-based protectionism, and the growing demand for renewable energy and the development of a North American energy policy.
