Premier Announces New Funding of up to $1.8 Million for U of W's Richardson College for the Environment and Science Complex

The Manitoba government has committed up to $1.8 million in new funding to support operating expenses and one-time moving costs for the University of Winnipeg’s Richardson College for the Environment and Science Complex, Premier Greg Selinger announced today.

“Our province is becoming well known as a leader in biotechnology, science and health research, and this new leading-edge facility will be an exceptional addition to the educational opportunities we offer students from across Manitoba and around the world,” Selinger said.  “The scientific and environmental research that will be conducted here will help these students study critical global issues as well as prepare for jobs in a worldwide knowledge-based economy.”

Operating costs may include items such as utilities, security, cleaning services, telephone charges, parking and general supplies.

The provincial government has invested just over $32 million over the past five years toward construction of the new science complex, which will contribute significantly to the University of Winnipeg’s efforts to revitalize downtown Winnipeg, said Selinger.

“The Manitoba government is pleased to be a partner in this new energy- and sustainability-conscious facility that will no doubt bring recognition and success to students and faculty for decades to come,” he said.
