Fire Permits Now Available in Western, Central, Eastern Manitoba
– – –Backcountry Travel Restrictions in Eastern Manitoba also Ended
Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship advises that due to accumulated rain and snowfall, forecast precipitation and higher evening humidity, burning permits will again be issued in western, central and eastern Manitoba. Backcountry travel restrictions in eastern Manitoba have also been lifted.
Campfires are now permitted in approved firepits in these areas. Permits for debris burning may now be obtained from most Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship offices. Permits are also required from the department for agriculture burning of crop residue near the forested areas of the province.
Some municipalities may still have bylaws with additional fire restrictions. Residents are asked to check with the local municipal office for any updates.
People living, working, camping or travelling through forested areas of Manitoba are advised to still use caution as some areas remain dry.
Anyone using an all-terrain vehicle is asked to check areas around the engine and exhaust frequently. If any debris is found, carefully remove and extinguish it. Operators are reminded to be prepared by carrying a fire extinguisher, small axe and shovel.
