New Minister of Advanced Education and Literacy Sworn in During Ceremony at Legislative Building

Premier Greg Selinger today appointed Southdale MLA Erin Selby as his newest cabinet minister.  Selby was officially sworn in as minister of advanced education and literacy at the Manitoba Legislative Building this morning.

“I’m proud to have Erin join our team at the cabinet table.  She’s a bright, hard-working MLA and a strong voice for families in her community,” said Selinger.  “Erin’s a working mother of triplets and, like all of us, she wants to see kids in our province succeed.  I know she’ll do great things to create opportunities and help more Manitobans get the best education possible.”

“Building on the great work of Diane McGifford, I’m committed to our government’s plan to create more training and apprenticeship opportunities, keep tuition affordable and give every Manitoban who wants an education the opportunity at one of our excellent universities or colleges,” said Selby.

Selby was elected the MLA for Southdale in 2007.  Since then she’s had many assignments including legislative assistant to the minister of family services and consumer affairs and to the minister of culture, heritage, and tourism.  She was a member of the Treasury Board Program Review Committee, the Community and Economic Development Committee of Cabinet and the Public Accounts Committee.  She has also sat as a member of the Healthy Child Committee and the Aboriginal Issues Committee of Cabinet.

Prior to her election, Selby earned a degree in journalism at Concordia University and was a familiar and trusted face on Manitoba television as anchor on CTV Winnipeg and City TV’s Breakfast Television, said Selinger.

“Erin brings a wealth of knowledge and skill to her new responsibilities.  She is respected by her colleagues and will work tirelessly to make life better for all Manitobans,” said Selinger.
