Province Helps Support New Recreation and Wellness Centre in Town of Swan River: Lemieux

Local Government Minister Ron Lemieux today congratulated the community of Swan River on the official sod-turning to kick off construction of its new recreation and wellness centre.

“The Swan Valley Recreation and Wellness Centre will be an excellent location for families to spend time together.  It will be a hub for entertainment and will help promote an active, healthy lifestyle for residents of all ages,” said Lemieux, adding the province has committed $2.4 million to the project.

The new recreation and wellness centre will provide residents of Swan River and the surrounding area with more opportunities to participate in recreation activities and enjoy active lifestyles.  The new 17,500-square-foot facility will be home to an aquatic centre featuring a four-lane, 25-metre pool, a leisure pool with gradual entry, a lazy river, numerous spray features, family change rooms and a viewing terrace.

“It’s such a pleasure to be here to help celebrate this exciting day for residents in the Swan River area and acknowledge the community support for this project, said Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives Minister Ron Kostyshyn at the sod-turning ceremony today.  “By working together, we’re helping to create a new recreation facility that will be admired by all and will be around for many generations to enjoy.”

“Our community is pleased to partner with the federal and provincial governments on the construction of this exciting new recreation facility,” said Mayor Glen McKenzie of the Town of Swan River.  “Swan Valley residents of all ages will have access to recreation and leisure activities that contribute to healthy lifestyles.”

Construction is expected to be complete by late 2012.
