Fair a World-class Tourism Attraction, Enjoyable Agricultural Experience for Entire Family: Selinger

The province is renewing its support of the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair with a five-year funding commitment, Premier Greg Selinger announced today.

“This highly successful annual event enhances Manitoba’s reputation as a centre of agriculture-based excellence, bringing recognition and economic benefits to Brandon and the province,” said Selinger.  “The Royal Manitoba Winter Fair is one of our most popular annual attractions because it’s an enjoyable and educational agricultural experience for the entire family.”

The fair’s attendance for 2012 exceeded 114,000.  It is the only fair in Western Canada designated as royalby Queen Elizabeth II.

The province’s support for the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair will total $100,000 over five years.

The provincial government supports three events presented annually by the Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba including the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair, the Manitoba Summer Fair and Manitoba Livestock Expo.  The province also supports 59 agricultural societies in rural communities throughout Manitoba.

“Agriculture is an important economic driver for our provincial economy,” said Selinger.  “The Royal Manitoba Winter Fair highlights the best in crops, livestock, agri-food development and innovation, helps consumers connect with producers and processors, and increases awareness and understanding of the valuable contribution agriculture makes to the lives of Manitobans.”
