New Passing Lanes, Curve Realignments will Mean Safer, Smoother Traffic: Premier Selinger

BRANDON—A $67-million highway investment that includes new passing lanes, curve realignments and asphalt resurfacing will make PTH 10 safer and ease congestion from Riding Mountain National Park to the U.S. border, Premier Greg Selinger announced here today.

“Highway 10 is western Manitoba’s main route to our major trading partner, the United States.  It also links several east-west routes and taps into the Trans-Canada Highway at Brandon,” Premier Selinger said.  “We know we need good core infrastructure to fuel steady growth in our rural economies that leads to good jobs at home for our young people.  Upgrades to this highway are part of our long-term commitment to invest in roads and bridges across Manitoba.”

Future projects along PTH 10 include:

  • grade widening and paving 12 kilometres north of the north junction of PTH 16;
  • passing lanes, curve realignments and paving from PTH 24 north to the south junction of PTH 16;
  • grade widening and paving from PTH 23 to the south junction of PTH 2;
  • curve realignments and paving from PTH 3 north for 15 km; and
  • grade widening and paving from PTH 3 to the Canada-U.S. border.

“The Association of Manitoba Municipalities fully supports infrastructure investments that help keep the local economy competitive,” said Doug Dobrowolski, president, AMM.   “These funds will not only benefit our second largest city, but many other municipalities in the region.”

The premier noted the upgrades announced today are in addition to $64 million in other projects recently completed or underway on PTH 10 and are part of a five-year plan that will see all of the new revenue from the one-cent-on-the-dollar increase in the PST devoted to building Manitoba’s core infrastructure including roads and bridges, flood protection and municipal infrastructure like sewer and water systems.

The premier also said the Manitoba Government will work with the City of Brandon to rebuild the Daly Overpass to ease congestion and improve safety on 18th Street in Brandon.
