Ag Business Expansion Study Receives Provincial Support

Ag Business Expansion Study Receives Provincial Support

Power-Matic Industries will study the feasibility of expanding its agricultural equipment manufacturing business in Morris with the help of $1,500 from Manitoba Rural Development.

Rural Development Minister Len Derkach said the study will examine the feasibility of Power-Matic Industries expanding its operation from a seasonal to year-round basis.

"Power-Matic's expansion would impact greatly on the community's economy by offering full-time employment to 16 seasonal staff," said Derkach. "This initiative is typical of the determination of rural Manitobans to help secure their economic future and we are pleased to support their efforts."

Power-Matic Industries manufactures a grain auger line and grain handling equipment, as well as a line of harrow bars and harrow sections for the agricultural industry.

The plant currently employs 16 people between February and September. The minister said operating on a year-round basis will allow the company to expand production and improve efficiency which will lead to increased sales and full-time employment.

Funding for the study is being provided under the Rural Economic Development Initiative (REDI). REDI supports business development projects that enhance rural communities such as manufacturing, infrastructure, conservation business and tourism development.
